The Quilting Group
The quilting group started at Cross Of Christ Lutheran Church in the mid 80's. Our purpose is to construct quilts and school bags to be sent to Lutheran World Relief on a yearly basis. They in turn ship them around the world. Especially to the needy countries or places where there has been a disaster of some kind such as Katrina or earthquakes where many people have nothing as a result of the disaster. A film called "Flying Quilts" was show at our church explaining how LWR works to help disaster victims.

When we began our quilting efforts, fabric was in short supply. Gradually, donations started coming in as more people became aware of what we were doing and the items we needed. Now we are truly blessed with fabric to last several years. We even had a hotel donate bedding sheets one year. We dyed them different colors which greatly impoved the looks of the final quilts. The finished quilts measure 60" x 80". We have been shipping an average of 175 quilts per year.
Our School Bags are constructed of fabric and measure 14 1/2" x 15 1/2". We then fill them with donated items such as erasers, rulers, scissors, pencils, a pencil sharpner, notebooks and construction paper. The children have greatly appreciated our efforts and smile with joy when they receive the bags. We have been shipping an average of 100 school bags per year.

Our group has grown to almost 20 people over the years. This includes both children and men (we need someone to do the heavy lifting). We meet every Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM and stay until noon. Once a month, we will include a potluck lunch and celebrate all the birthdays for that month.
It is a wonderful time of fellowship doing one of God's many missions. Please join us and celebrate.
