The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) is the official women's auxiliary of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The national organization was formed in 1942 as a mission minded service organization. Since that time, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman's relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions.
We at Cross of Christ are part of the Mid-South District. We are part of the Chattanooga Zone with 5 congregations having active units of LWML ladies.
Cross of Christ has two activity LWML societies - a day group and an evening group. Our organization has been known for its Mite Box used to gather coins and dollars in support of mission projects. Our service to Cross of Christ and the community include:
- Preparing a supper during Advent and Lent
- Hands-on Advent project
- Advent Calendars - given to new families in the congregation
- Altar Guild - responsible for preparing communion ware, paraments, candles and flowers
- Kitchen - Paper products, new tablecloths, periodic cleaning out
- Quilters - meet every Tuesday at 9:30 AM
- Other activities - Comfort Pillows for Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center, Women's Fellowship, monetary support for Seminary Students, Seminary Food Banks, AAA Women's Services, Bethesda, Lutheran Hour and other organizations.
